In my mailbox

The old year ended with a few books from Awesome Books. As usual I missed the 4 for 3 sale, and their “awesome bundles” were a bit strange, so I only bought three books, but even without them being bundled I only paid very little.
I bought
- Death of a gossip by M. C. Beaton. Caroline recommended this cosy mystery series to me. This is the first book.
- A supposedly fun thing I’ll never do again by David Foster Wallace
- Important artifacts and personal property from the collection of Lenore Doolan and Harold Morris, including books, street fashion and jewelry by Leanne Shapton. No, this is not an auction catalogue, well, it is, but a fictional one.
I got as a gift
- By the lake by John McGahern. This one has been on my wishlist for a long time.

Nice!!! Great to start a new series- assuming you will enjoy it. That Supposedly Fun Thing book is one I’ve been wanting to read, and the auction catalogue I’ve heard about – it sounds very good.

Yes, I am really looking forward to all of them. I already read the Beaton one and it is VERY cosy. Just the right book to cuddle up and just read on without too much thinking.
The “Important Artifacts …” book intrigues me, and the “Death of a Gossip” sounds just like my kind of thing too (I saw how long the series already is, makes me wonder whether book #28 still has the same bite the first one has, not as though I have a clue how good #1 might be, but you get the idea … personally I don’t trust series that are that long)!
BTW I received the rest of my 2011 AwesomeBooks order also this week, which means I will present quite a decent book haul for, uhm, quite a while now (but that’s ok, seeing how many unread books I have).

Not sure about the rest of the series, Birgit. From what I have read the first book is not even a lot like the rest because it deals with outsiders involved in the murder and not the locals. Obviously the rest of the books are more about village life.
Can’t wait to see your *awesome* haul!
some lovely books to start the year with I read a foster wallace before but none of the otheres ,all the best stu
