In my mailbox

I didn’t plan on doing a IMM post today, I have been good in not acquiring books, but just today I got an email that my book on hold is now available for download.

From the library

  •  Fifty Shades of Grey by E L James
After reading a couple of reviews that were not too bad from my blogging friends I decided I need to know what the hype was about.

  1. Only one book? I admire your level of self-control. My pile of library books is again ridiculous (10, of which most are Jane Austen related). I have only seen one relatively positive review of Fifty Shades so far… I’ll eagerly await yours!

    • My book buying ban is still working pretty well, and I am very pleased with myself, :). Not sure I will like 50 shades as I am not a fan of BDSM, so we will see.

  2. Oh, funny! I hope you like this book- a bit, at least. I was ready to give up half-way but keep in mind that things never go as far as you may fear at first. 😉

I enjoyed it, I also read it because of the hype and found it better than expected, but still not my kind of book. Still, I enjoyed it mostly.

  3. You already know my 2pence on this, so I will be waiting for your impressions 🙂 As for what’s in my mailbox, bookwise, I got Peter Ackroyd’s The last Testament of Oscar Wilde, which I have been planning on reading for years, so it better be good 🙂

  4. I also want to read it for the sake of knowing why people hate it so much, but at the same time… I’m pretty sure I won’t like it after reading the writing is “childish” and that it all started as a Twilight fanfic!

Yesterday I got “How to be a woman” by Caitlin Moran after reading in many blogs it makes a great reading for feminists/women’s studies although I do not really expect something beyond the memories of a 20th century woman.

  5. Soon I’ll be the only one left who hasn’t read THAT book *lol* then again, the bigger the hype the higher my reluctance usually is (no seriously, I’m strange like that). But to be fair, it’s just not the kind of book I see myself enjoying, hype or not. Still, I’m curious about how you’ll find it! 🙂

I’ve stocked up on a couple of Kindle books and (of all things) NetGalley books! Honestly, I can see yet another book buying ban in the not too far future … no, wait, eBooks don’t really count, so it’s only half as bad as I initially thought this week’s book haul would be! 😉

    • E-books don’t count? That is the first thing I hear, ;). They count with me.
Oh, yes, go on a ban and we can discourage each other from buying books.
