Welcome to Blogfest 2011!

Have a look around, don’t forget to enter my giveaway and then hop on to the next participating blogs and see what they have to offer.
To see a full list of participants (there are over 200!), please go to A Journey of Books. There you will also find a tracking page where you can track your progress you made during the blogfest.

Now to the giveaway…
I am giving away a used copy (good condition) of A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers by Xiaolu Guo. I blogged about this book in a very, very short post almost three years ago, but you can find a longer review of it at Libri Touches. The giveaway is international.
Product description
Language and love collide in this inventive novel of a young Chinese woman’s journey to the West and her attempts to understand the language, and the man, she adores.Zhuang – or “Z,” to tongue-tied foreigners – has come to London to study English, but finds herself adrift, trapped in a cycle of cultural gaffes and grammatical mishaps. Then she meets an Englishman who changes everything, leading her into a world of self-discovery. She soon realizes that, in the West, “love” does not always mean the same as in China, and that you can learn all the words in the English language and still not understand your lover. And as the novel progresses with steadily improving grammar and vocabulary, Z’s evolving voice makes her quest for comprehension all the more poignant. With sparkling wit, Xiaolu Guo has created an utterly original novel about identity and the cultural divide.

I’m going to host a few giveaways during this blogfest 2010.
The fourth giveaway is for Buffy lovers…two Buffy novels.
“Ghoul trouble”
Something wicked has been preying on Sunnydale students — and whatever it is, its methods are pretty gruesome. Buffy locates some human bones that have been picked clean, and knows that she’s dealing with an unearthly evil. Some help from the Scooby Gang would be ideal, but they’ve run into trouble of their own. Oz and Xander are literally (perhapsunnaturally) mesmerized by a hottie new chick band headlining at the Bronze, and Willow has been captured by Sunnydale’s latest resident carnivores. What they need is the Slayer. But in order to help her friends, Buffy must first dust a vampire — one that has an urgent interest in Joyce Summers, the unique ability to resist sunlight, and an open invitation to the Summers’ house…
“Power of Persuasion”
When the female population of Sunnydale starts strutting its girl power, the push for gender equality seems like a normal expression of ’90s feminism. After all, a girl trying out for the football team isn’t usually a sign of imminent danger. But when the guys start acting like powerless pawns and a few even turn up dead, Buffy Summers notices that the local womyn’s movement has reached a feverish — and probably unnatural — pitch.
The Slayer is the only one who can see straight during the ultimate battle of the sexes. Her friends — including Giles — are spellbound by the malignant muses permeating the school. Even the local vampires are acting strange. Alone in her search for answers, Buffy must figure out who’s behind the sinister sisterhood…and close the gender gap before the feminist revolution goes too far.
This is a "From my shelf to yours" giveaway. The books are used. So, please don’t expect a pristine condition.
Giveaway rules:
- The giveaway is open internationally. No country restrictions.
- It runs until September 12, 2010.
- Please fill out the form below to enter. No following, subscribing or anything required.
- The winner will be drawn randomly, announced on my blog and notified by email.
- If the winner doesn’t answer my email within three days I’ll draw another one.

I’m going to host a few giveaways during this blogfest 2010.
The third giveaway are two thrillers by Patricia Cornwell.
“Cause of Death”
Patricia Cornwell’s heroine Dr. Kay Scarpetta is back; this time to solve the mystery of the death of an Associated Press reporter who was killed while nosing about in a decommissioned navy yard. Scarpetta’s involvement in the case leads her to be targeted for murder herself by a nasty little neo-fascist cult with delusions of grandeur that include a plan to "kill and maim, frighten, brainwash and torture" all who oppose their plan to rule the world. Helping Scarpetta is her niece Lucy, an F.B.I. agent whose computer expertise leads to a heart-stopping journey into cyberspace.
“All that remains”
In Richmond, Virginia, young lovers are dying. So far, four couples in the area have disappeared, only to be found months later as mutilated corpses. When the daughter of the president’s newest drug czar vanishes along with her boyfriend, Dr. Kay Scarpetta knows time is short. Following a macabre trail of evidence that ties the present homicides to a grisly crime in the past, Kay must draw upon her own personal resources to track down a murderer who is as skilled at eliminating clues as Kay is at finding them….
