2. Where was the last place you had a romantic dinner?
That must be years ago and I can’t remember. I’m not the romantic dinner type anyway. In fact I just asked John when was our last romantic dinner and he said “We went for a romantic dinner the other day, but it wasn’t romantic because you were involved.” Charming, huh?

Sunday Stealing: The 2 for 1 meme

Sunday Stealing: The 2 for 1 Meme

1. What is on the walls of your room?
There is no such thing as “my room”, but I managed to put stuff up on walls anyway. It’s either poetry scrapbooking pages, other scrapbooking pages, various artwork, ATCs, some canvases with digital art and some posters – it’s all random stuff, collected over the years, thrown together with no rhyme or reason.

2. What type of music do you listen to?
My music taste is eclectic. Can’t pin it down.

3. What do you want more than anything right now?
No idea. I’m pretty happy with everything.

4. Do you get scared in the dark?
No.

5. What’s you worst fear?
That in the future we’re going to be tortured with the same questions in every other meme. Really!

6. If you could anything right now, what would it be?
If I could ….anything right now? What? Buy? Have? Do? I think I’ll leave this open.

7. What’s the meaningful gift that you’ve received?
If this means the most meaningful gift, no idea. Can’t think of anything right now.

8. Do you have a crush?
No.

9. Who is your favorite celebrity?
I. Do. Not.Care.For.Celebrities. (please refer to #5)

10. Could you fall in love with someone that you know must leave?
Oh, yes. Been there.

11. Share a favorite quote of yours.
”Being a woman is a terribly difficult task, since it consists principally in dealing with men.” Joseph Conrad

2. What’s your weakness?
Coffee? Chocolate? I don’t know.

13. Do you believe that we all have a soul mate?
As much as I like the thought, I’m afraid we don’t.

14. What were you doing before Sunday Stealing?
Blogging about other stuff.

15. What do you get complicated about the most?
If I choose to, I can get complicated about everything. Overanalyzing and complicating matters is a specialty of mine. On the other hand, if I choose to I can simplify things, too.

16. What turns you off the most from a potential partner?
Usually a potential partner doesn’t turn me off at all. If he did so, he wouldn’t be a potential partner, would he? I’m idealistic.

17. What is you worst habit?
I’m anal retentive in certain ways. In others I’m as negligent as can be. This inconsistency has the potential to drive other people insane.

18. When was the last time that you were jealous?

19. Have you ever had a “friend with benefits”?
No. If I have, the “benefits” can’t have been very memorable.

Hardly ever. People who use sarcasm are usually insecure and hide their true personality behind it. Jesus, who am I kidding here?

I revel in song binging. At the moment it is “Crying shame” by Jack Johnson. Next week it might be something totally different and I’ll never listen to “Crying shame” again.

22. What is you favorite day of the year?
No idea. Do people have a favourite day of the year? Maybe the first day of a vacation, when everything is packed and everybody is full of anticipation and then you hop in the car and you know there is a ship waiting for you to take you to another place. Yeah, that’s it.

23. Describe your love life.
There is no such thing. And if there was I wouldn’t tell you about it and say instead that there was no such thing.

24. When was your last one night stand?
Can’t remember. I vaguely recall that it must have happened in the 90s.

25. How many past lovers are too many?
Bloody hell, what is this here? Research for a study? What do I know? I suppose it depends on your promiscuity and your upbringing. I wonder whether those two are directly or reciprocally proportional. I’m sure there are some people out there who would say one is too many, but I’m not one of them. Once you’ve gotten past this magical barrier I suppose it doesn’t matter at all.

Sunday Stealing: The first 20 meme

Sunday Stealing: The Twenty Firsts Meme

I don’t know whether I’m the only person with a bad memory or whether the creator of this meme has an exceptionally good one. How I can possibly remember all those firsts I don’t know, but I’ll try.

  • First Job: My first job during school holidays was stamping books at our high school.
  • First Real Job: Receptionist at a hotel
  • First Favorite Politician: Is there such a thing? If I have to name one it is Gregor Gysi. He’s a smart left wing politician, who hasn’t been in power, so he’s never had the chance to fuck up.
  • First Car: Fiat Panda
  • First Record/CD: Not sure, probably The Beatles 1962-1966
  • First Sport Played: I don’t play sports and never have. I was always forced to do it.
  • First Concert: Michael Jackson, I’m sorry to say.
  • First Foreign Country Visited: No clue, I’ve been around since I was very small. Probably it was Italy.
  • First Favorite TV Show: Die Biene Maja, an adorable cartoon featuring a cute, diligent bee and her male sidekick, Willi, who is the laziest guy ever. All he does is take naps. This show shaped my view of the world and of the relationship between men and women.
  • First Favorite Actor: Val Kilmer
  • First Favorite Actress: I don’t remember ever having one.
  • First Girlfriend/Boyfriend: Sergio
  • First Encounter with a Famous Person: I don’t remember my first encounter. It’s always a customer / staff relationship anyway. I don’t go celebrity hunting.
  • First Brush With Death: In the 90s when a Japanese friend, who has never been driving a car with stirring-wheel on the left, drove us around in the US in a car that belonged to a guy from the UAE. When she went right on red, disregarding another’s right of way, we collided and the car almost overturned and went down a hill. We were taken home by the police, it was all dead exciting. She was in lots of trouble later, because the actual car owner was the guy’s cousin who knew nothing about the car being given to her. And it was a write-off, afterwards. Oh, the joys of travelling.
  • First House/Condo Owned: I don’t own a house (or condo).
  • First Film Seen: Maybe Bambi.
  • First Favorite Recording Artist: No clue. I’m very disloyal to favourite artists and change them quickly. I probably did back then, too, and don’t even remember them. There are only two that stuck with me through the years.
  • First Favorite Radio Station: No clue. However, I enjoyed listening to this radio program on Sundays when I was a kid. It was hosted by a guy with a great, deep, booming voice. I always imagined him to be a nice man. I met him years later (full of anticipation) and found out he was a total jerk. Demanding, never satisfied, condescending and overbearing. Sounds can be deceiving.
  • First Book I Remember Reading: Oh, please. Maybe “Die Forsthausmaus”, a book I only managed to find recently on a swap site again for my kids. I keep telling them that mama read this more than 30 years ago and they are not interested.

Sunday Stealing: Blogging

I’ve seen the Sunday Stealing meme around for a while, but often the questions were too personal for me (even though you could argue that the choice of books somebody reads says a lot about them already), or just not my kind of questions. Anyway, this week’s questions are about blogging. If you want to join as well, head on over to the Sunday Stealing blog.

Sunday Stealing: Our Third Meme About Blogging

1. How did you come up with your blog title OR what does it mean?
Well, I read books and usually don’t throw them away, so to find a title wasn’t hard. However, an awful lot of people who search for accounting software and the like turn up on my blog and tend to be somewhat disappointed.

2 What are your general goals for blogging?
No goals. When I started this blog it was to rant to my heart’s content about a couple of books by Laurell K. Hamilton that I read. That was my initial intention and I just went from there.

3. Do people “in your real life” know that you blog and do they comment on your blog OR is it largely anonymous?
Good heavens, no. Most people IRL don’t even read books and if they do I’d be very surprised if they read the same genre. I’d never hear the end of it if they knew about my blog.

4. How often do you post (x per week)?
I try to post at least once a day.

5. How often do you read other blogs (x per week)?
Every day.

6. How do you select blogs to read (do you prefer blogs that focus on certain topics or do you choose by tone or…?)
I read other blogs that review the same genre, other book blogs in general, other blogs that participate in the same memes, like Weekly Geeks and Thursday 13, photoshop blogs, creative blogs, whatever blogs I came across that caught my interest.

7. Do you have any plans to copy your blog entries in any other format, or do you think that one day, you’ll just delete it all?
No plans to copy into another format. As long as I can pay the bill for the web space and as long as I’m interested in books, I won’t delete anything. So, the blog should stay for a little while longer :-).

8. What are the things you like best about blogging?
You meet a lot of interesting people that way, or people that share the same interests. And sometimes those two groups even overlap.

9. What are the things you don’t like about blogging?
It’s time consuming if you don’t want to do it half-heartedly.

10. How do you handle comments?
Everybody loves comments. If you didn’t want feedback, why blog in the first place? I try to comment on blog posts if I have something to say. When I get comments I reciprocate if I have something to say (I usually do). What I don’t like though are comments that tell me nothing. Comments like “Great post!” and “Loved this” I can do without. That is just for the sake of commenting and should be abolished.

11. Do you have any burning thoughts to share on blog etiquette?
No. Just be nice!

12. Any desired blog features?
I use Live Writer and am not too happy about some of its supposed features. Like the publishing date doesn’t work and my images always end up where I don’t want them. But maybe that is just my inaptitude.

13. Have you suffered blog addiction?
Of course not. The mere idea is preposterous.
